Art on the Trail: Outdoor Nature & Art Exhibition

Consider a winter walk on the Red Trail at Lake Roland Park. You’ll see nature-inspired, site specific outdoor installations by local artists including Robin Williams. Pictured here are her Guardians, installed with assistance by Mike Burdinski. Guardians were inspired by her experience of walking the trail and feeling the living protective presence of trees and the canopy of branches along the path. Guardians express the energetic presence of wind, water, and earth, elements so vital to the park and all inhabitants and visitors.

You are invited to an Art on the Trail: Meet The Artists Reception, December 10, 2017, 1:00-3:00pm at stone Pavillion 1. Meet and share with the artists, enjoy tasty tidbits, warm drinks, and explore the trails and art. Installations will be on view for the coming year.

Excerpts from the following poem by John O’Donohue were incorporated into Guardians

Beannacht (Irish Blessing)

For Josie

On the day when The weight deadens On your shoulders And you stumble, May the clay dance To balance you. And when your eyes Freeze behind The grey window And the ghost of loss Gets in to you, May a flock of colours, Indigo, red, green, And azure blue, Come to awaken in you A meadow of delight. When the canvas frays In the currach of thought And a stain of ocean Blackens beneath you, May there come across the waters A path of yellow moonlight To bring you safely home. May the nourishment of the earth be yours, May the clarity of light be yours, May the fluency of the ocean be yours, May the protection of the ancestors be yours. And so may a slow Wind work these words Of love around you, An invisible cloak To mind your life. (A "currach" is a large boat used on the west coast of Ireland.)
